I decided to become productive. Producing wontons to be exact. Why? No idea. I just had a random craving for them and felt like the sadistic torture of sitting down and wrapping them for an hour or more. I’m strange like that.
So ready? Steady… cook…
1/2 kilo of protein (I had chicken to get rid of)
3-4 leaves of chinese cabbage
3-4 soaked dried mushrooms
2 pack of 40 wrappers
2-3tsp of soy sauce to taste
2 tsp sesame oil
Minced ginger/garlic to taste
1. Finely chop everything. Do the cabbage first and toss some salt through. Let it sit for a few minutes to draw the water out, then squeeze dry.
2. Chuck it all in a giant bowl and mix through sauce and oil to taste. Test by cooking a little in a pot of boiling water (you’ll need it to cook the dumplings once done anyway). Adjust as needed.
3. Get everything ready for the epic wrapping. Tray for dumpings – check. Bowl of water for sealing – check. Find some mood music – what?
4. Start wrapping.
Aww… isn’t it cute? That one was probably a little on the overstuffed side. However much filling you want to put in? Try half that.
Much easier to wrap…
Ready for freezing now.
Well after all that fun I think I’m set for food for the rest of the week. It works straight with a little bit of XO sauce, or bulking it up with noodles and soup is good too. So hopefully my non-productive state has met its demise for now. As much fun as lazing around can be, I’d much rather be getting stuff done.
